Caffeine, espresso and performance
Did you know that coffee was considered a performance-enhancing drug (PED) by the World Anti Doping Agency until 2004?
At that time, the amount of caffeine required to test positive was 12 micrograms per ml of urine.
As a reference, this quantity is the equivalent of 8 espresso servent in about an hour.
Caffeine has been removed from the doping products list for 2 reasons.
First, it’s good for health compared to the majority of other doping products.
Also, studies couldn’t clearly show that caffeine was directly helping to improve performance in sports.
Athletes are still tested for caffeine when tested for PED but aren’t sanctioned for any quantity…
What about you, do you feel that coffee helps you perform better in your everyday tasks, or is it just tasty?
